Primary Tutor in Littleworth, Faringdon

ABOUT LIZ

From ‘fine‘ to Flourishing

I’m Liz, a local primary tutor based in Littleworth, Faringdon, just off the A420 between Oxford and Swindon.

I help children from Reception to Year 4 fill gaps in their learning, build confidence, and develop the secure foundations they need to feel happier and more successful at school.

I specialise in primary maths, phonics, early reading and early writing, with all sessions taught face-to-face from my home-based learning spaces.

My aim is simple: to help children move from ‘fine’ to flourishing.

As a parent, I know how hard it can be when you have a nagging feeling that your child is not thriving at school, even though everyone tells you they are ‘fine’.

I vividly remember trying to hold back tears after an early-morning conversation with my son’s teacher in order to professionally start my working day. My son wasn’t failing, and nobody had done anything wrong, but I could see that he wasn’t flourishing. This experience helped me understand the worries many parents carry about the child who avoids reading, becomes anxious about maths, loses confidence, isn't being sufficiently challenged or simply doesn’t enjoy learning.

That is why my tutoring focuses not just on closing learning gaps, but on helping children feel capable, confident and happy in their learning again. For some children, that means rebuilding confidence and developing secure foundations; for others, it means providing greater challenge.

Why “From ‘fine’ to flourishing?”

My Background and Qualifications

I hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) with Distinction, and an Enhanced DBS certificate registered with the Update Service. Before becoming a full-time tutor, my background included qualifying as a solicitor, working in school support roles and volunteering with Girlguiding.

I started tutoring part time in 2023 and moved into full-time tutoring in 2025.

I love tutoring because it brings together my professional skills, life experience and passion for helping children build the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to flourish.

My Approach to Teaching

My teaching is calm, thoughtful and nurturing. I focus on understanding where each child is in their learning then helping them build skills step by step. For some children, this means identifying and addressing gaps. For others, it means providing the challenge they need to keep progressing.

Growth mindset is a big part of my work. Many children quietly believe, “I’m just not good at this.” I help them see that learning can change, confidence can grow, and tricky things can become manageable with the right support.

I don’t have specific SEND training, but I do have experience successfully supporting children with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and situational mutism. I treat every child as an individual and work hard to find approaches that help them feel comfortable, confident and able to learn. I will always be honest with parents about what I think is right for their child and will signpost further support if appropriate.
